Winnipeg’s 17th Wing Band becomes part of History this summer!
The above is a picture of WINNIPEG’s 17th Wing Band about to take part in a First! Canadian Armed Forces announces for the first time in its’ 94 year history, the R.C.A.F. will be guarding the Queen. The contingent will be flying to the United Kingdom to perform public duties for Her Majesty in a few weeks.
Over 120 members from across the country including our 17th Wing Band will be deployed as the first non-infantry contingent from Canada to undertake positions as The Queen’s Guard. Their duties are more than ceremonial in protecting our Sovereign; a tradition of Commonwealth soldiers working with the United Kingdom in support of civil authorities. While there , the R.C.A.F. will offer protection for all official royal residences including Buckingham Palace , Windsor Castle , St. James Palace and The Tower of London. If holidays should take you to “ Jolly Olde” this summer you may glimpse our very own guarding from June 25th to July 15th. A very proud moment for members of 17th Wing Winnipeg being part of a first in R.C.A.F. History.
