Social media has not exactly been the greatest these days. But I’m thankful we have it for when things like yesterday happen.
Because thanks to social media, I got caught in a rabbit hole of Norm MacDonald stand up, sketches, and interviews, helping me to grieve along with the rest of the world.
David Letterman, Seth Rogen, Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman, Conan O’Brien, and thousands of the world’s best entertainers paid tribute to Norm. The videos and stories they shared were both extremely touching and hilarious.
I remember the last time he was in town, I convinced Jenna to come to the show with me. Although I grew up with SNL, Jenna became a fan when we started dating and watching the show regularly. So, she wasn’t really aware of Norm’s unique style of stand up. But she sure was after. We spent the entire show in laughter, admiring his knack for finding humour out of any awkward situation.
We don’t get a lot of “escapes” in this world anymore. And I think the reason why so many people are hurting over the loss of Norm was because every time he had an audience, he provided exactly that. An escape.
Rest easily Norm. Thank you for the laughs. -Brody
For your enjoyment, here’s quite possibly the best joke ever told. There is no other person who could deliver it the way Norm did.
